Comprehensive Plan Update

The vision of the City & Borough of Juneau is to be a vibrant State Capital that values the diversity and quality of its natural and built environments, creates a safe and satisfying quality of life for its diverse population, provides quality education and employment for its workers, encourages resident participation in community decisions, and provides an environment to foster state-wide leadership. Last updated in 2013, this Comprehensive Plan is a long-range blueprint designed to guide the growth, development, and conservation of valued resources within our community over the next 20 years.

The mission of the Downtown Douglas/West Juneau Area Plan is to create a long-term vision for the area from Sandy Beach to the Douglas Bridge that reflects current public desires and incorporates past work from relevant existing plans. The planning process began in January 2020. Our team is working hard to reconnect with the steering committee to continue working on the plan. With your help, we will have a long-term vision for Downtown Douglas/West Juneau that will guide growth and development for the next 20 years.

The mission of Blueprint Downtown is to create a long-term area plan for the Downtown Juneau area that reflects current public desires and incorporates past work from relevant existing plans. Right now, Blueprint Downtown is in it’s Visioning stage. Our team has been working hard to connect with the community and listen to your ideas and concerns. With your help, we are working towards drafting a core Vision that will help guide the steering committee through the remainder of the planning process.

Lemon Creek Area Plan Website

The Lemon Creek Area Plan is a blueprint for the desired development of this strategic mixed use area. With a population of over 3,500 people, located between downtown Juneau and the Valley, Lemon Creek has been identified through the public planning process as Juneau’s “mid-town,” with a desirable mix of housing choices, beautiful natural setting, and business opportunity.

This plan is an important milestone in the Borough’s strategy for influencing change and forming a basis for defining the vision and projects for the Lemon Creek area. It is a consensus-based plan, built through Steering Committee guidance, and relying on input from residents, local businesses, property owners, non-profit groups, and other interested parties.

The vision of Auke Bay is to be a community that offers: gateways to many outdoor activities, including fishing, kayaking, boating, hiking, and bicycling; study and programs at the University of Alaska Southeast; and history and cultural significance for the Aak’w Kwáan who have made Auke Bay their home for millennia
