This is an irregular-shaped, five-story reinforced concrete building measuring 50' x 170'. It has a partial concrete basement, a renovated penthouse, a flat roof and a concrete sidewalk canopy. There are storefront windows on the first level with double hung windows on the other floors. Fluting with decorative chevrons is at the top of the front facade. The building has hardly been altered over the years.
Historical InformationLocated within the Juneau Downtown Historic District, structure was originally constructed for W.D. Gross, a pioneer in Alaskan films and movie theaters. The theater housed the first pipe organ in an Alaska movie house moved from its original location in the Coliseum Theater to the Gross's new theater in 1939. It was rebuilt is now installed in the 8th floor lobby of the State Office Building.
