The building is a one-story wood frame structure with a moderate pitched hip roof and concrete foundation. It features two gable pediments on east elevation, wood shingle siding, wide overhanging enclosed eaves and an enclosed, partial length front porch under the principal roof line.
Historical InformationRobert Semple, born in Michigan in 1869, came to Alaska in 1897. He became an important contractor building stamp mills and canneries throughout southeast. In Juneau, Semple constructed the Scottish Rite Temple, a school, and installed the Juneau Lumber Mill power plant. He was Juneau?s superintendent of streets in the 1920?s. Semple bought Lot 4 in 1907 and on it built two houses, 604 and 618 Gold Street. Over the years he lived at both addresses. In 1936 Christian and Mildred Wyller acquired the house. Christian, born in Norway in 1901, came to the US in 1924 and to Juneau in 1926. An engineer, Wyller started his own firm after retiring from the Bureau of Roads. Mildred was born in 1900 in North Dakota and came to Juneau in 1926 to teach. They were married in 1930. The house remains in their family today.
