Additional Information

General Description

The two-story wood frame building measures 26' x 93'. It has a wood piling foundation and a flat roof. The first floor has storefront windows and the second floor has blocked windows. Metal siding was added to the sides and rear of the building in the 1970s. There is a high rising front parapet, bracketed cornices, and a sidewalk canopy. The first floor facade has been remodeled to an appearance similar to the original. The second floor facade is largely original.

Historical Information

One of the better-known bars and dancehalls that sprang up during the early mining era. The structure was originally owned by John Rega and purchased at the turn of the century by Jim McClosky. In 1918, at the beginning of prohibition, the current Germania owner, W.A. Ferguson, announced he would turn the saloon into a workingmen's club room. At one time it was also part of the Red Dog Saloon.
