The building measured 33-x 40? and was a three-story structure. It had a two-story covered porch on the west elevation and double hung windows on the Calhoun Avenue elevation. It featured modest Shingle Style elements seen in the low pitch gable front and use of wood shingle siding. There was modest Queen Ann detailing on balustrades along the double level porch.
Historical InformationConstructed prior to 1914 and later served as a market operated by J.M. Giovanetti. Born in Italy in 1877, Giovanetti arrived in Juneau in 1904, was proprietor of at least two grocery stores, and later was employed by the Alaska Juneau Mill. According to local newspaper items, Giovanetti appears to have started his Calhoun Avenue store in a building on the opposite side of the street, with a Dixon Street address and later moved to this location. He also operated a grocery store on Willoughby Avenue at the same time.
