Daily Bulletin
The Daily Bulletin is posted at approximately 3:00pm daily. The bulletin contains a brief synopsis of any event in which a JPD case was created between 12:00pm the previous day to 12:00pm the day of posting. Cases are typically related to larger incidents. Examples include when an arrest is made, documentation that a crime may have occurred or when an investigation is ongoing.
It’s important to know that the Daily Bulletin does not include all calls for service that JPD responded to during that time period, just those that were significant enough to result in creating a case. Some events require time to process prior to the case being made. In those situations, the event may not appear in the Daily Bulletin. Reports submitted through the JPD Online Reporting Portal do not appear in the Daily Bulletin. Those reports do not include serious crimes or in-progress crimes and are limited to issues such as harassment, minor motor vehicle collisions, fraud, minor thefts, trespass and vandalism. Link to Daily Bulletin.
Information Releases
When there is an incident that JPD feels needs further explanation beyond the Daily Bulletin, or there is a need to notify the public about an event, JPD creates and publishes an Information Release. These releases contain information about the event, are emailed to media outlets, posted on the JPD Facebook page, and online at www.juneaupolice.com.
When issuing information, JPD does their best to balance the right to inform the public with maintaining the integrity of investigations and privacy rights. Some cases such as drug control or trafficking investigations, suspected suicides, death of infants or young children, or other sensitive issues are rarely issued contemporaneously, sometimes not at all.
It is important to remember that information contained in the media releases concerning criminal cases are based on the preliminary investigation and are subject to change or clarification as the investigation continues. Any charges reported in the release are merely accusations and all persons named are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Link to Information Releases.
Community Crime Mapping
The Juneau Police Department participates in an online crime mapping program that allows the public to view crime information that occurs in our community. The LexisNexis Community Crime Map is free to the public and allows users to subscribe to optional email updates. By informing the public of criminal activity in their area, the map enables viewers to make informed decisions to help improve the safety of their families, friends, property and community. Public Information & Media Relations
JPD does not have a full-time public relations officer. Daily Activity Bulletins are issued by the Communications Section (Dispatch). Communication with the media and issuance of press releases are performed by the 2 designated public information officers and shift supervisors as time allows. Link to JPD’s Media Relations Policy.
