The building is a one-and-one-half story wood frame structure with a moderate pitch roof, gabled front and shed roofed addition on one side. It has a concrete foundation and wood shingle siding. It also features full width hip roofed enclosed front porch with round corner or top windows and door, reminiscent of Colonial Revival style. The structure also contains modest Craftsman style design references such as the gable front and hip roofed porch. The structure appears to have been altered over time explaining the eclectic architectural character.
Historical InformationAmbrose Hile owned the house from 1904 until his death in 1935. Hile was born in Pennsylvania during the 1860s and came to Alaska in 1898. He worked as a miner and later as a teamster for various transfer companies.
