The building measures 30? x 46?. It is a two-story, wood frame structure with a hip roof and three hip dormers. It has a full basement, concrete foundation. Other features include a full covered porch with low pitch shed roof on the front elevation, a bay window facing Calhoun Street. The house was remodeled with attention to historic preservation standards.
Historical InformationJohn Olds was a pioneer Juneau miner who came to Juneau in December 1880 with the first party of miners. He entered the hotel business with his first establishment, the Franklin Hotel. He also managed the Occidental Hotel. Active in civic affairs, he helped organized the ?87 Pioneers Association in 1907.
