Additional Information
The building is a one-and-one-half story wood frame octagonal structure with octagonal onion-domed cupola and Russian cross. It has a concrete foundation and is sided with horizontal wood channel lap siding. It features four gable dormers and a rectangular entrance appendage with square bell tower and dormered spire. The bell tower has Queen Ann tracery detailing. The domed cupola is clad in wood shingles. The octagonal shape has religious significance and this explains the late construction date relative to the Octagon Mode period. The date of construction also explains the Queen Ann tracery detailing.
Historical InformationIt is the oldest unaltered church in Juneau. The structure was build through the initiative of local residents and has been in continuous use since consecration in 1894. Each side of the octagonal shaped building represents one day of the week with eighth side a day for God.
