Activities are designed to help students build life skills by engaging in new interests or hobbies. A BAM! Activity can be any appropriate activity that will engage middle school students afterschool.

Volunteers may create activities to fit their interests, skills, and schedules. You don’t have to be an expert on a topic. You only need to have some interest and a willingness to share with middle school students. BAM can help you develop your ideas and provide support for supplies.

Volunteers may also choose to help support other BAM Activities.

Activities take place from 3:05 PM to 4:25 PM, Monday – Thursday during the school year. Most activities are 4 – 10 sessions long . Activities might meet once a week, twice a week, or four days straight. Schedules are flexible and based on the interests and time of the volunteers.

A BAM Activity can be any appropriate that will engage middle school students on school grounds. Arts, Cooking, Crafts, Cultural, Games, Health, Life Skills, Music, Sports, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), etc.

Middle school students have a surprising variety of interests.

Arts – Drama/Acting, Poetry, Dance, Painting, Origami, Drawing, Photography, Comic Book, Stenciling, Portrait drawing, Anime, Crayon Art, Graffiti, Doodling

Crafts – Fashion/sewing, Basket Weaving, Knit/Crochet, Kite Making, Folk Arts, Scrap booking, Holiday Décor, Jewelry Making, Wood Working/Carving (no power tools)

Cultural – Alaska Native Arts, Filipino Culture, Hip Hop, Cajun, Anime

Game Room – Magic the Gathering/Pokemon cards, Card Games, Comic Books, Board Games, Dungeons & Dragons, Outdoor Games

Life Skills – Cooking (various themes, Italian, Mexican, Holiday, Seasonal, Baking, No Bake, Thai, French, etc.), Financial Awareness , Money Management, Stock Markets, Current Events, World Affairs

Music – Intro to Guitar, Music Appreciation, Hip Hop, Garage Band, Singing Groups, Glee

Sports – Tennis at FD, Fly tying, Yoga, Skate Boarding, Dance, Flag Football, Four Square, Geo Caching, Parkour, Bicycle repair, Martial Arts, Capture the Flag, Ultimate Frisbee, Table Tennis, Yard Games – Horseshoes, Croquet, Boccie

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) – Minecraft, 3D Design & Printing, Geometric/Fractal art, Game Making, Architecture, Model Design/Building, Computer Building, Experiment Lab, Space Exploration, Crime Scene Investigation, Wildlife/Nature, Physics/Chemistry activities, Geology/Mineralogy

Activities are NOT limited to this list. Activities can be any appropriate activities that can be done on school grounds.
