When youth arrive at the Zach Gordon, they can expect to be greeted by our friendly staff! Staff are usually cooking food, playing games or leading activities with kids. The center has some awesome features including: Indoor and outdoor basketball courts, a weight room and exercise equipment, ping pong, foosball and pool tables, an outdoor fire pit, board games, arts and crafts and so much more.
The Center features a public climbing wall, courtesy of the Juneau Rotary Club. The climbing wall is free for youth 19 and younger during open facility hours, and is also available for private rentals at a rate of $35/ hour +tax. If available, our staff can provide all training and climbing knowledge necessary, so don’t worry if you have never climbed before!
All participants must have a waiver signed by their parent or guardian before climbing.
Climbing Wall Waiver
During the summer, the climbing wall will have no official hours; however if you or your family wants to climb, feel free to stop in and our staff will gladly help you. For more information, call 586-2635.
The Zach Gordon has a full time Outreach Coordinator. This staff person connects with community partners to provide housing services to youth 24 and younger as well as other supportive services. They work closely with Rapid Rehousing which collaborates with partner agencies to house youth in a collaborative way that focuses on community and relationship building. The Outreach Coordinator is a great resource to assist youth in their transition into adulthood.
The center hosts a variety of events and activities such as Anime Saturdays, a Superbowl Party and Drive-In Bingo! For the most up to date information on our events, we encourage you to follow us on Facebook or Instagram.
The center also hosts a couple of ongoing affinity groups!
Spicy Water (LGBTQ+ group for teens, named by teens!) – this group meets on the last Monday of each month from 6-8pm. Each month we will host a different activity. In the past we have done a paint night with a local artist, a Halloween movie screening, pizza making and more!
BIPOC Teen Talk – a safe social group for Black, Indigenous and People (teens) of Color. This group meets at the end of the month (follow us on Facebook for more info!) and has done various activities such as bowling, a bon fire, Native American Heritage month bingo and more. This group hosted by BIPOC adults from the Zach Gordon, AWARE and Yaakoosge Daakahidi High School.
