BAM Afterschool Activities

The Body and Mind Afterschool program (BAM) is facilitated by the Zach Gordon Youth Center in collaboration with the Juneau School District, community partners, and volunteers to provide free afterschool activities for Juneau middle school students. We believe all youth deserve free & fun afterschool activities led by positive, healthy mentors.

Outdoor Leaders
Presented by Discovery Southeast
Thursdays April 14th – May 19th
Join us as we explore Juneau’s backyard! We’ll focus on building outdoor skills and confidence through a lens of wellness. Activities may include, but are not limited to: fire-building, shelter construction, outdoor cooking, navigation, animal tracking, games and more.

Safe Sitter
Presented by Bartlett Hospital
April 25th – May 4th, days vary – 4/25, 4/26, 5/2, 5/3, 5/4
This activity is designed to prepare students to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger brothers or sisters, or babysitting. Registration is required and space is limited. Students MUST attend all 5 sessions to receive a certificate of completion.

Junior Police Academy
Tuesdays & Thursdays April 21st – May 19th
Explore what it means to be a Police Officer and how they do the job. This is a hands on activity. Students will learn about police equipment, radio calls, car crash protocol, take fingerprints, make a shoe mold and analyze it, investigate a mock crime scene, practice a SWAT formation, attempt a sobriety test wearing impairment googles and much more!
