Men's and Women's Volleyball Registration | July 27 - August 6

Registration for Men’s and Women’s Volleyball opens Monday, July 27. Register online until August 6 at 11:59 p.m. Player fee is $60 + tax per person, and the team fee is $350 for Divisions 1 & 2 and $450 for all other divisions. Late registration is August 7 until 4:30 p.m. and will incur a $75 late fee. Find more details on the Men’s and Women’s Volleyball webpage.

Augustus G. Brown Swimming Pool Closed | August 10 - 16

Augustus G. Brown Swimming Pool will be closed from Monday, August 10, through Sunday, August 16, for annual maintenance. The pool will reopen for regular hours on Monday, August 17. During the closure, Dimond Park Aquatic Center will remain open to the community. Visit the Juneau Pools schedule to view the aquatics calendar.

Sigoowu Ye Park Ribbon Cutting

Updates to Sigoowu Ye Park (Fun Place Park) in Lemon Creek have been completed, and the park opened to the public on Friday, July 31. We invite community members to celebrate with us at a ribbon-cutting ceremony and BBQ on Saturday, August 29, from 12 to 2 p.m. The celebration will be held at the park, located at 5921 Pine Street.

Fall Session 1 Swim Lessons Registration | August 17

Juneau Pools is offering swim lessons for tots, preschoolers, youth, and adults at Dimond Park Aquatic Center and Augustus G. Brown Swimming Pool this fall. Registration for Session 1 opens on Monday, August 17, at 12 p.m. Visit the online catalog and click on the “Juneau Pools” tab for more details and to sign up.

New this session! Safe Starts is a new program in which children ages 3-12 can begin learning to swim while accompanied by a parent or guardian. Safe Starts will help students gain independence in a comfortable environment and prepare them for traditional swim lessons.

Floyd Dryden Tennis and Pickleball Courts Closed for Renovation Starting July 6

The courts at Floyd Dryden will close to the public effective Monday, July 6, as renovations begin. Following the installation of three new sets of net posts, Park Maintenance staff will resurface, paint, and restripe the courts when weather allows. The completed project will result in one shared tennis and pickleball court and two dedicated pickleball courts.

Work is expected to continue through the month of July and may extend into August, depending on weather and contractor scheduling. The courts will remain closed to the public for the duration of the project. Cope Park is open as an alternative location for tennis and pickleball during this time.

Si't Tuwan Park Closed for Renovation

Si't Tuwan Park in the Valley is currently closed to the public as renovation work continues. Updates include new playground equipment, basketball improvements, drainage improvements, new play surfacing, and enhanced lighting throughout the site. For the safety of yourself and others, please respect the park closure and avoid all construction equipment until the project is complete and the park has reopened.

Replacement of Cope Park Water Utility Pump Station

Construction on a new water pump station at Cope Park is underway now and is expected to wrap up by early 2027. Cope Park will remain open throughout the project. The access road will be open to pedestrians the entire time, though vehicle traffic may be reduced to one lane periodically and briefly closed during certain construction activities. The 7th Street stair access will not be affected. Park users should follow all traffic control signs and flaggers and stay alert for construction equipment in the area.

Various Parks & Rec Fees Increase on July 1, 2026

Starting July 1, 2026, fees across a variety of Parks & Recreation services and programs will increase to reflect increased operational expenses and decreased city general funding. The upcoming fee changes were adopted during the fiscal year 2027 municipal budget process. The last significant increase to Parks & Recreation fees was in 2021.

Preschool Open Gym will be moved to Marie Drake and will reopen to the public after Labor Day. 

Shéiyi Xaat Hít (Spruce Root House) Launches Safe Place® Program for Youth

Juneau's only 24/7 emergency youth shelter, Shéiyi Xaat Hít, has launched Safe Place® in partnership with Tlingit and Haida, first responders, and community organizations. Safe Place designates youth-friendly businesses as locations where any young person ages 10 to 17 in crisis can walk in, ask for help, and be connected with a trained shelter staff member within 30 minutes.

Look for the black and yellow signs at participating locations across Juneau, or text "safe" and your location to 44357. Celebrate the launch at the Safe Place Launch Party on Friday, June 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Zach Gordon Youth Center.
