Project Overview

Homestead Park, located near the intersection of David Street and 3rd Street in Douglas, will undergo a number of improvements including replacements to the elevated wooden platforms, walkways, and stairs. The project began with an open house in May 2024 to gather input from community members and offer an opportunity to learn more about the project design and ask questions.

This project is funded with marine passenger fees.

Update January 2025

Construction began on Monday, January 13 and is expected to continue into June. The 3rd Street & David Street bus stop and adjacent sidewalk will not be impacted by construction.

Update May 27, 2025

Supply delays have pushed the estimated completion date to July 28, 2025. The framing, ADA ramp, and temporary decking is set to be in place by June 2 for tour operations to commence. While the viewing platform is open, the boardwalk remains closed and the area remains an active construction zone. Please obey all posted signs and stay in designated areas when visiting the park.

Update October 13, 2025

The material received for the new decking was incorrect, delaying progress on the project. Replacement materials have been ordered and are expected to arrive later this fall. The upper viewing platform is currently open to the public, but the remainder of the park remains closed as it continues to be an active construction zone.

The project’s anticipated completion date is now Spring 2026. We appreciate the community’s continued patience and cooperation—please obey all posted signs and stay in designated areas when visiting the park.
