Project Overview

Work will commence April 17, 2024 on the State of Alaska Department of Transportation’s SFHY00259 JNU Brotherhood Trail Improvements & Bridge Replacement project. This project will reconstruct the northern portion of the Kaxdigoowu Heen Dei (Brotherhood Bridge Trail) between Montana Creek and River Road trailhead and replace the failing pedestrian bridge over Montana Creek.

Improvements include:

• Replacing the pedestrian bridge at Montana Creek to provide a larger span for more natural stream movement and to allow emergency and maintenance vehicle use
• Armoring Montana Creek streambanks to increase the expected life of the new bridge
• Trail reconstruction including repairing subgrade in select areas
• Repaving the northern portion of the trial between Montana Creek and River Road trailhead
• Replacing and/or adding drainage culverts

The trail between River Road and Montana Creek, as well as the immediate bridge site, will be closed to the public for the duration of construction. Please obey all posted trail closure signs and barricades for the safety of yourself and others.

Construction is currently expected to last through September 2024.
