JUNE 21, 1894-George Miller has completed a slaughter house near the mouth of Gold Creek. He now has 15 fat steers ready for his meat market which is conducted by John Myers.
It is estimated that 400 people, mostly men, have gone through Juneau this year enroute to the Yukon. The number includes people with all degrees of experience in mining, and many with none.
The hydraulic giants of the Nowell Gold Mining Company are now operating under a full head in Silver Bow Basin.
Willis Thorp is running his battery of 10 stamps on ore from the Taku mine.
F. C. Hammond has shipped 200 sacks of ore from the Silver Queen mine to the smelter at Tacoma.
The Alaska Treadwell Gold Mining Company has several improvements under way. A 50 by 50 crusher tower 84 feet high is being built over the hoisting shaft. Two No. 6 Gates crushers will each handle 50 to 60 tons of ore an hour. The main hoisting shaft will be sunk an additional 150 feet and a new steam hoisting plant. At the chlorination work a new brick stack 80 feet high is being built. It will be 15 feet across at the base and 8 feet at the top.
Col. William Winn is having a portion of the Opera House building remodeled for a restaurant.
J. M. Davis has L. Goth employed at landscape gardening in front of his residence on Sixth Street. A terrace and slope will be graded from the house to a bulkhead along the street and a lawn and shrubbery will be planted.
The Juneau Water Association has filed articles of incorporation with a capital stock of $20,000. The association proposes to bring water from Salmon Creek in opposition to the Lewis water company.
The Alaska Electric Light & Power Company will carry water from Gold Creek in a 20-inch pipe to a power house site some distance below the bridge. It is announced that 16 candlepower lights will be $1.50 a month until 10 p.m. and $2 a month for all night service.
