Many Heading for Yukon Gold Fields

FEBRUARY 22, 1894-The first winter party from the Yukon arrived today on the steamer Yukon from the head of Lynn Canal. The four men in the party left Forty Mile on December 18 and arrived at Wilson?s post at Dyea on February 8, making the trip in 53 days. They have about $15,000 in gold dust among them.
George T. Snow and family are preparing to go into the Yukon early in the spring. This will be the first family to go in over the winter trail.
MARCH 1, 1894-The Bank of Juneau with J. N. Harrison as cashier has opened its doors for business on Seward Street. Drafts are made on Seattle, San Francisco, New York and London, interest is paid on term deposits, gold dust is purchased and commercial paper is discounted. There is also a savings department.
Willis Thorp has shipped in lumber, shingles and other material for the new boarding house he will build at the Taku mill to replace the one burned in December.
C. F. Fuehr, Douglas drug store operator, has been arrested as an accomplice of Frank Jurgens in the robbery of the Treadwell chlorination works.
A great many men are going to the Yukon this spring. The local steamers Rustler and Seaolin are making regular trips to the head of Lynn Canal.
MARCH 15, 1894-Mr. and Mrs. J. Montgomery Davis moved into their new house on the hillside at the head of Seward Street yesterday.
L. V. Winter went to Seward City on the Rustler to take photographic views of the mill, mine, railroad and tramway of the Berners Bay Mining Company for F. D. Nowell.
Joe Juneau, Charles Morse and Charles Laurence arrived by canoe from Hoonah Hot Springs on Tenakee Inlet where they have been wintering. About 25 people spent the winter there.
MARCH 22, 1894-Mark Cohen, proprietor of a local brewery and cigar factory, has been elected president of the Juneau Fire Association.
A large crowd of Juneauites crossed on the ferry to Douglas Saturday night for the dance at Frank Kane?s hall, followed by supper at the Yukon Hotel.
MARCH 29, 1894-Richard Nelson is opening a merchandise store in the Prior Building on the waterfront.
