Larger St. Ann's School Opens

JULY 30, 1891-Grindstone Creek, down the channel, is attracting the attention of prospectors. The Lost Lunch lode is one that makes a particularly good showing.
Miss Eliza Scidmore, the author, is camping at Muir Glacier in Glacier Bay with Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Johnson.
Connelly and Cadman are getting good returns from their placer ground in the Basin.
AUGUST 6, 1891-The Websters are getting out some good ore from the Humboldt lode and will run their stamp mill for a short time this fall.
Plans are being made to work the Last Chance placer claim which lies along Gold Creek for a distance of 4,600 feet in Last Chance Basin. The claim contains 70 acres and has been surveyed and is ready for patent. The gravels will be tapped at depth by a bedrock tunnel from a site about 1,200 feet down the creek from the lower end of the basin.
St. Ann?s school will open Monday in the new, large school building recently completed.
AUGUST 13, 1891-William Stubbins now has charge of the Douglas post office and has moved it to his place of business on Front Street.
The Silver Bow Basin Mining Company is making a large hole in its immense tract of placer ground in the Basin with its hydraulic giants.
The problems of obtaining good household water is again engaging the attention of property owners in Juneau and the Lewis Company is being urged to enlarge its plant.
The Juneau post office is now open each day from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. and on Sundays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The new hoisting works at the Alaska Treadwell Gold Mining Company is now operating and ore will soon be raised from the shaft.
A 50-foot shaft is being sunk on the Golden Currie lode on Sheep Creek.
AUGUST 20, 1891-Geese are plentiful on the bar but are reported very wild.
The new barber shop in Seward Street offers baths at the rate of three for a dollar.
The Alaska Cigar Factory, W. P. Ellingen, proprietor, now offers four brands: ?Home Industry,? ?Henry Clay,? ? Juneau Enterprise? and ?Father of the Country.?
