Permit Center reopening on Fridays starting March 11

The City and Borough of Juneau’s Permit Center is returning to “business as usual” and will operate Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. effective Friday, March 11. The Permit Center, run by the Community Development Department (CDD), has been closed to in-person services on Fridays since October. The change comes as staff vacancies have been filled and COVID-19 cases decline in the Juneau area.

Both in-person and remote participation is available for pre-application meetings, which are available by appointment. Inspections are continuing as normal.

Visit the Community Development Department website for information on permit applications, plan submittals, and pre-application meetings. The public is welcome to do business with CBJ online, by email or phone, through mail or drop box.

Permit Center closing on Fridays starting October 22

The Community Development Department (CDD) will be closing the Permit Center to in-person services on Fridays starting October 22, 2021. CDD has determined this is the best way to address a high influx of permits, combined with staffing shortages, in order to process permits in a timely manner. Members of the public can still schedule inspections by phone. Inspections will continue to occur as scheduled.

For more information on permit applications and online submittals, please visit the CDD website at juneau.org/community-development/permit-application.

Permit Center staff will advise you when its processes return to “business as usual”.

For more information, contact the Community Development Department at 907-586-0715.

Permit Center taking phone calls and emails only

To mitigate the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), as of Monday, March 23, the City and Borough of Juneau Permit Center will discontinue face-to-face interaction with customers and begin receiving permit applications digitally through email and phone. Pre-application meetings will be available by appointment over the phone. Permit Center staff will assist customers unaccustomed to emailing plans or filling out applications digitally; please call for assistance.

Inspections will continue at this time, but CBJ asks that all doors to buildings remain open during the inspection; any surfaces the inspector may touch be disinfected prior to their arrival; and the construction professional or homeowner on site remain in a separate area, more than 6 feet from where the inspection is occurring.

For information on permit applications and online submittals, please visit our website at www.juneau.org/community-development.

Permit Center staff will advise you when processes return to “business as usual.” In the meantime, find up-to-date information on CBJ’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic here.
