Juneau Pools History
A division of the City & Borough of Juneau’s Parks and Recreation Department, the Aquatics Division oversees the City’s two pools: Augustus G. Brown Swimming Pool in Downtown Juneau and Dimond Park Aquatic Center in the Mendenhall Valley.
Juneau’s original swimming pool, Augustus Brown Swimming Pool opened in February of 1973 in Downtown Juneau.
Augustus Brown Pool has enjoyed a long-standing tradition of providing quality of life to the people of Juneau. Together with Dimond Park Aquatic Center it continues to offer a wide variety of recreational activities, exercise facilities, Aquatic fitness classes, and swimming lessons for guests of all ages!
What’s at Augustus Brown?
Augustus Brown Pool has a Lap Pool, a Recreation Pool, a Climbing Wall, a Sauna and an Exercise area.
Our Lap Pool, is 75 feet by 45 feet and is maintained at 83 degrees. And features a Climbing Wall and High and Low Dive.
Our Recreation Pool, is 35 feet by 45 feet and is maintained at 90 degrees.
Our Sauna is maintained at 195 and sits about ten people.
Our Exercise Deck sports a universal exercise machine, sit aboard chin up and horizontal dip machine, three exercise bikes, three recumbent bikes, and four rowing machines.
Diamond Park Aquatic Center held its grand opening on June 4th, 2011 under the Parks and Recreation mission statement of: To enhance the quality of life in Juneau.
Situated in the Mendenhall Valley Dimond Park Aquatic Center plays counterpart to its Downtown sister, Augustus Brown Swimming Pool.
What’s at Dimond Park Aquatic Center?
Dimond Park Aquatic Center has a lap pool, a leisure pool, a hot tub, a dry heat sauna, and a workout area.
Our Lap Pool is 75 feet by 60 feet and has a low dive and a drop slide.
Our Leisure Pool offers zero depth entry for easy access and contains a current channel, vortex, spray features, water slide, and three 45 foot lap lanes.
Our Sauna seats 20, is available to users over the age of 16 and is maintained at 180 degrees.
Our Hot Tub seats up to ten people (16yrs and older only) and is maintained at 102 degrees.
Our Workout Area includes two each of the following pieces of equipment: rowing machines, recumbent bikes, upright bikes, and Vasa trainers. We provide a sit-up station, vertical knee raise station, stretching and yoga mats, and a variety of medicine balls.
