Juneau Pools History
A division of the City & Borough of Juneau’s Parks and Recreation Department, the Aquatics Division oversees the City’s two pools: Augustus G. Brown Swimming Pool in Downtown Juneau and Dimond Park Aquatic Center in the Mendenhall Valley.
Juneau’s original swimming pool, Augustus G. Brown Swimming Pool, opened in February of 1973 in Downtown Juneau and was most recently renovated in 2023.
Augustus Brown Pool has enjoyed a long-standing tradition of providing quality of life to the people of Juneau. Together with Dimond Park Aquatic Center, it continues to offer a wide variety of recreational activities, exercise facilities, Aquatic fitness classes, and swimming lessons for guests of all ages!
What’s at Augustus G. Brown?
Augustus G. Brown Pool has a lap pool, recreation pool, climbing wall, sauna, and fitness area.
- Lap Pool: 75×45 feet, maintained at 83°, features a climbing wall, high and low diving boards
- Recreation Pool: 35×45 feet, maintained at 90°
- Sauna: Maintained at 195°, sits approximately ten people
- Fitness Deck: Universal exercise machine, sit aboard chin up and horizontal dip machine, three exercise bikes, three recumbent bikes, and four rowing machines
Diamond Park Aquatic Center held its grand opening on June 4, 2011, under the Parks and Recreation mission statement: To enhance the quality of life in Juneau.
Dimond Park Aquatic Center has a lap pool, a leisure pool, a hot tub, a dry heat sauna, and a workout area.
- Lap Pool: 75×60 feet, low diving board, drop slide
- Leisure Pool: Zero depth entry, current channel, vortex, spray features, water slide, and three 45 foot lap lanes
- Sauna: Maintained at 180°, seats 20, is available to patrons over the age of 16
- Hot Tub: Maaintained at 102°, seats up to ten people, is available to patrons over the age of 16
- Fitness Deck: Rowing machines, recumbent bikes, upright bikes, and Vasa trainers (2 each), sit-up station, vertical knee raise station, stretching and yoga mats, and a variety of medicine balls
