A triathlon is a multi-sport event where participants complete a swim, bike, and run in sequence as part of a single race.
Each team consists of three participants. Each participant completes a mini triathlon—swimming, biking, and running—before handing off to the next teammate. The total time of all three team members determines the final team time.
There are two main types of triathlon relays:
- Team Relay: Each team member completes a full mini triathlon before tagging the next teammate. This is the format used for the Dimond Dash.
- Segment Relay: One team member swims, another bikes, and the third runs. This format is available in the Aukeman Triathlon but not the Dimond Dash.
Triathlon distances vary, but the general classifications are:
- Super Sprint: The shortest distance, ideal for beginners (this is the Dimond Dash format).
- Sprint: Short-distance event, usually twice the length of a super sprint.
- Olympic: The standard distance used in the Olympics.
- Long & Ultra: Longer endurance events, including Ironman races.
- Swim: ~150 yards in the Dimond Park indoor pool. Participants will exit the pool and have space to put on shoes before heading outside.
- Bike: 1.1-mile loop around the Dimond Park sports complex and Thunder Mountain Middle School. The course includes gravel and sandy trails, potential muddy areas, short paved sections, and several sharp turns.
- Run/Walk: 0.5-mile course on asphalt, paved trails, gravel, and grass.
- No pushing off walls or turning at lane lines.
- Participants will swim two counterclockwise loops around the pool.
- Buoys will mark the corners, and swimmers will start in waves.
Teams are categorized by age:
- Youth Category: All team members are younger than 15 years old.
- Adult Category: All team members are 15 or older.
- Mixed Category: A team with members both above and below the age of 15.
- Swim: Swimsuit and goggles/mask. Towels are recommended.
- Bike: A flat-bar bike (mountain, fitness, or BMX). No drop, curled, or aero bars allowed. Helmets are required.
- Run: Closed-toe running shoes are required.
All race equipment will be stored in the transition area within each team’s designated space. Volunteers will monitor the area for security. Lockers are available for storing dry clothing or personal items not needed during the race. Participants must provide their own locks if needed.
Each participant will take approximately 15-30 minutes to complete their portion of the triathlon, making the total team time between 45-90 minutes.
- Being comfortable completing the required swim, bike, and run distances consecutively.
- Practicing transitions to get used to switching between activities.
- Understanding that race-day excitement and adrenaline can make the experience feel more intense.
- $60 per team (if registered before March 13).
- $75 per team (starting March 14).
- A fun and exciting event experience.
- Post-race food and refreshments.
- A participation medal.
Registration for Dimond Dash 2025 opens on February 18 at 12 PM. The event is limited to 70 teams, and registration will close on April 13—or earlier if all spots are filled.
Registration Process:
- The team captain must register the team and pay the entry fee.
- After the team is registered, each team member must complete their individual registration.
