Full Description

The Thursday, July 6 tour has sold out, but we will be offering a second tour, Wednesday, August 9.

Have you ever wondered how old the rocks under your feet are? Or why gold is found here? Find out the answers to these questions and more during a special walking tour focused on downtown Juneau?s geology led by emerita Professor of Geology Dr. Cathy Connor and retired geological engineer Mike Blackwell. The tour will highlight the general geology of downtown and how this geology has influenced our downtown development and history. The walk will be about 1.5 miles in length and will begin at the City Museum, located on the corner of 4th and Main Streets, and end at the Downtown Public Library. Terrain will be downhill or flat, with no stair-climbing.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for children ages 12 and under, and may be purchased at the City Museum or by calling 907-586-3572. The tour includes free admission to the City Museum as well as a coupon for 20% off in the Museum?s gift shop. Space is limited to 20 people, so advanced reservations with payment are recommended.
