Dale DeArmond (1914-2006) was an artist best known for her woodblock prints and book illustrations. She moved to Juneau from Sitka in 1953 when her husband, Robert (Bob), took a job under B. Frank Heintzleman, then the Governor of Territorial Alaska. Dale eventually became the director of the Juneau City Library from 1958-1979, housed in the building that the Museum now calls home.

Quoting from the July 29, 2005 Daily Sitka Sentinel: ?Dale was not overjoyed at the idea of leaving Sitka, but I assured her that we would return in four years?, Bob (DeArmond) wrote. ?It was a false promise; it was 38 years before we returned.? But he did buy her a correspondence art course for Christmas. ?That was one of the most successful things I ever did.? Dale went on to become one of Alaska?s premier artists.

Join us from 10:30 to 12 noon when we gather to remember Dale and hear stories from people who knew her and were impacted or inspired by her and her work. This is a free event, and the coffee is generously donated by Hertiage Coffee Company.
