Episcopal Church Plans Structure for $1,200

SEPTEMBER 21, 1895-When unloading cattle from the Willapa last Monday, Peter Hansen, deckhand on the ship, was fatally injured by being thrown down and trampled upon by a steer.

The Seaolin is on the Douglas Island ferry run in place of the Julia.

Ducks from the bar are now plentiful on the local market.

It is said that Juneau will soon have a second bank in which local capital will be largely interested.

SEPTEMBER 28, 1895-Some members of the Juneau Fire Department are proposing that a town hall be built here, both as a meeting place and as headquarters for the fire department and a place to store firefighting equipment.

OCTOBER 5, 1895-At a meeting in the Log Cabin Church on Monday evening a Juneau council of the National Union, a fraternal organization, was formed. In all, 62 persons signed the membership roll during the evening. C. S. Johnson was named president and J. M. Davis, vice president. Other officers include J. G. Heid, J. H. Johnson, John Olds, Rev. L. F. Jones, John Calhoun, M. McLaughlin and Frank Forrest.

The quality of light furnished by the Alaska Electric Light & Power Company has been so poor of late that many local merchants have cut them off and gone back to the old reliable coal oil lamps.

OCTOBER 12, 1895-The finance committee of Trinity Episcopal Church is meeting good success and more than $900 has now been subscribed. Plans for the church show a pleasing structure which can be erected for $1,200.

The Alaska Improvement Company, operating the Silver Queen and Gould and Curry mines on Sheep Creek, is receiving two eight-horsepower gasoline engines manufactured by George Sintz of Seattle, who will arrive to install them. The engines will be used to drive air compressors at the two mines.
