Douglas Team Holds Laurels on Football Field

JUNE 7, 1894-William Ebner will put in a new wire tramway this year to connect the Jumbo group of claims with the mill of the Juneau Mining and Manufacturing company.
Captain Willson came up from Wrangell this week on the little tug Lively and towed a barge with 33,000 feet of lumber for Ellengen and Rudolph, local contractors.
Peter Bulger of Wrangell is a Juneau visitor and brought 22 barrels of oolicans or candle fish which are plentiful there. He found a good market here as they are the equal of mackerel as a breakfast dish.
The Douglas team has held the laurels of late on the football field, but the rules are not always strictly observed. In the game last Thursday, for instance, there were once three balls on the field at the same time. The Douglas players include William Stubbens, Frank Bach, Hugh Tracy and Frank Kane.
JUNE 4, 1894-Thomas McCully is sluicing gravel at the mouth of Gold Creek with fair returns.
Charles Wells is getting ready to start ground sluicing in Silver Bow Basin.
Attorney J. F. Malony intends building two cottages near his residence on East Street.
The Lighthouse Tender Columbine was in port this past week and is in command of Captain Oscar W. Farenholt. He greeted Juneau friends he made in the years when he was in charge of the gunboat Pinta.
C. E. Coon is authorized agent for Singer sewing machines in Alaska. He will rent, sell on time or exchange for old machines.
Louis Levy reports that about $10,000 worth of furs were purchased in Juneau this spring. He represents Leibes & Company of San Francisco and bought between $3,000 and $4,000 worth.
B. M. Smith returned here on the steamer Queen with two dynamos for the new electric light plant to be installed by the Alaska Electric Light & Power Company. The dynamos will be run by turbine water wheels and it is hoped that the plant can begin producing electricity by September 1. Willis Thorp is principle stockholder of the company.
Bishop Nicolas of the Greek Catholic Church in Alaska will arrive from Sitka in a few days to dedicate the church here.
