Dr. Bergman Opens Hospital on Seward Street

NOVEMBER 20, 1890-Archie Campbell?s Dodge mill, which started up early in the spring, has now closed for the winter but ran continuously on good rock. Before it closed a test was run on some ore from the Silver Bow Basin Mining Company property and the gold from the test has been melted into slugs, the largest of which weighs out at $106. Campbell started working his property some years ago with a hand mortar, then built an arastra which he used until he put in the present mill.

Juneau experienced an earthquake last Tuesday morning between 4 and 7 a.m. depending on who timed it.

Malicious vandalism has been reported in the camp. Posters put up by Hambrock & Dorr, prescription druggists, were defaced or torn down. Their store is on Front Street opposite the Sitka Trading Company.

Albert Triblet and Laughlin MacKinnon, who have been at work on the Silver Bow Basin Mining Company tunnel, went below on the last boat.

Henry Nowell of Boston, a cousin of Frank Nowell, has arrived to assume the management of the Silver Bow Basin Mining Company for the winter.

It had been intended to hold a Thanksgiving service in the old log church on Third Street but it was found that to remove the accumulated dust of many ages was not possible in the time available and the services were held in the Brady building instead.

On Wednesday afternoon Dr. W. E. Bergman led Flora, the second daughter of Reuben Goldstein to the altar. The ceremony was performed by Judge Hoyt.

DECEMBER 11, 1890-The Mozart Musical Society will meet next Tuesday evening in the public school building. Instruction will be given by Prof. Clark Miller. The Rev. S. H. King is secretary of the society.

Dr. W. E. Bergman, M. D., has fitted up a hospital on Seward Street for the treatment of all kinds of diseases. Rates, including medical attendance, nursing and board are $5 a day. Outside patients under Dr. Bergman?s treatment, if the case requires, will be entitled to 20 baths without extra charge.
