MAY 22, 1886-The Grand Jury at Sitka, in its report, asked Judge Dawson to set regular term of court at Juneau at least once a year because of the volume of litigation here. Judge Dawson has set a special term to be held at Juneau on June 18. The Grand Jury also pointed out the need for a courthouse and jail and a school building.

JUNE 6, 1886-N. A. Fuller won his case against R. T. Harris in the U. S. District Court, according to word received here from Sitka, but the judgment was less than half the amount sought. Fuller had sued Harris for $15,000 damages which Fuller claimed he suffered as a result of mining operations conducted by Harris on part of a lode claim owned by Fuller. The main point at issue was whether the Harris-Juneau lode claims had been located before the Fuller lode claim, as Harris?s record book showed, or afterward, as Harris once stated in writing and as was testified by Joe Juneau. The case was heard before Judge Lafayette Dawson and a jury at Sitka on May 24 and judgment was rendered for Fuller in the amount of $7,000 plus expenses. It is understood that the U. S. Marshal will sell as much of Harris?s property as necessary to satisfy the judgment.
