AUGUST 10, 1915-At a cost of $30,000 the Gastineau Hotel is to be enlarged immediately. The addition will have 70 rooms, bringing the total to 110. E. R. Jaeger and Claude Erickson are the owners of the three story concrete building.
JANUARY 22, 1927-Juneau High School won both the boys? and girls? basketball games from Douglas High School last night. In the boys? game Connors, J. Orme, Livie, F. Orme and Burke rolled up a 25-15 score over Martin, Johnston, Cashen, Bonnar and Zimmerman. In the girls? game the score was 26-22 with Pademeister, Burke, Davis, Weil, Hooker, Messerschmidt and Campen playing for Juneau; Gallwas, Lindsey, Carlson, Hammock, Reidi, Cashen, Sey and Fraser playing for Douglas.

APRIL 4, 1934-I. Goldstein was re-elected mayor yesterday, defeating Thomas B. Judson 888 to 568. Ralph Beistline, Wallis S. George and H. Messerschmidt were elected to the City Council. Grover C. Winn was unopposed for the School Director post. A total of 1,465 votes were cast. In Douglas, A. E. Goetz was elected mayor over A. E. Johnson. James Sey, Hans Loken and A. F. Granberg were elected to the City Council and Mrs. Richard McCormick to the School Board.
DECEMBER 6, 1939-Eustace P. Zeigler sailed for the south last night after completing a number of murals in the Baranof Hotel, including ?The Lady That?s Known as Lou? in the Bubble Room.
JULY 27, 1940-Paul Satko, his wife and seven of their nine children arrived yesterday afternoon in the Ark of Juneau after being more than two years on the way from their home in Virginia. Satko constructed the frame of his vessel in Virginia, then trucked it to Puget Sound to finish it. It measures 40 feet in length with 8 feet of beam and is 9 feet from deck to keel. It is powered by a 1927 Buick engine. Satko has been a farmer, a U. S. Marine and a welder and has been offered a farm near Eagle River. Two of the Satko children remained in Virginia.
JUNE 22, 1941-Virgil Farrell has been appointed Director of Education for the Office of Indian Affairs in Alaska. The position has been vacant since 1938 when Claude M. Hirst left to become General Superintendent of the agency. Dr. George A. Dale has been acting Director. Farrell was principal of the Nome government school for five years and for the past three years has been Arts & Crafts Director in Juneau.
