All City and Borough of Juneau offices and most facilities will be closed on Monday, October 19 in observation of Alaska Day. The following facilities will remain open: 

• Thane Ballot Processing Warehouse will remain open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Zach Gordon Youth Center will remain open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• Shéiyi X̱aat Hít Youth Center will remain open 24/7.
• Dimond Park Aquatic Center will be open for lap swim only from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
• Dimond Park Field House track will be open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

In the summer, Capital Transit expands its service through funding from the Marine Passenger Fee Program. Beginning Monday, October 5, Capital Transit is returning to its regular, year-round service. Passengers should expect the following changes: 

Seasonal Changes 

Core Service routes on Sundays will start later in the morning and end earlier in the evening.  

First buses on Sunday:  

• Downtown to Valley: Route 3 at 9:15 am from the Downtown Transit Center 

• Valley to Downtown: Route 3 at 9:15 am from the Valley Transit Center 

• Douglas to Downtown: Route 1 at 9:03 am from Treadwell 

• Downtown to Douglas: Route 1 at 9:17 am from the Downtown Transit Center 

Last buses on Sunday: 

• Downtown to Valley: Route 4 at 5:45 pm from the Downtown Transit Center 

• Valley to Downtown: Route 4 at 5:45 pm from the Valley Transit Center 

• Douglas to Downtown: Route 1 at 5:33 pm from Treadwell 

• Downtown to Douglas: Route 1 at 6:17 pm from the Downtown Transit Center 

Temporary Service Reductions 

Due to a staffing shortage, the following services will be temporarily suspended until later in October:  

• Route 9 Egan Express departing at 7:15 am from the Valley Transit Center to Downtown. Please use the Route 8 Downtown Express departing at 7:15 am, or the Route 9 Egan Express departing at 6:45 am as alternatives. 

• Route 8 Valley Express buses departing the Downtown Transit Center at 7:30 am, 9:30 am, 11:00 am, 12:30 pm, and 2:00 pm. Other scheduled Route 8 Valley Express buses will run as normally scheduled. Please use those other Route 8 buses, or Route 3 or 4 Mendenhall Valley buses as alternatives. 

• Route 8 Downtown Express buses departing the Valley Transit Center at 8:15 am, 10:15 am, 11:45 am, and 1:15 pm. Other scheduled Route 8 Downtown Express buses will run as normally scheduled. Please use those other Route 8 buses, or Route 3 or 4 Downtown buses as alternatives.

The City and Borough of Juneau Recycling Center will be closed on Tuesday, July 28 for scheduled maintenance of the baler. Maintenance will ensure regular wear and tear is not exacerbated, and that the baler will continue operating consistently and efficiently for years to come.  

The Recycling Center will reopen with regular hours the following day, Wednesday, July 29.

City and Borough of Juneau offices will be closed on Friday, July 3 in observance of the Independence Day holiday. Normal business hours, which are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, will resume on Monday, July 6. Other facilities and services will have the following availability:  

 Services:  

• Capital Transit and Capital AKcess will not operate on Saturday, July 4. They will operate with regular service on Friday, July 3 and Sunday, July 5.  

• Juneau Police Department Officers and Public Safety Dispatchers are available 24/7 all year. Administrative offices will be closed starting Friday, July 3 and re-open on Monday, July 6.  

• The Recycling Center will be open on Friday, July 3 but closed on Saturday, July 4. Household Hazardous Waste will be closed both July 3 and July 4. 

Facilities:  

• Shéiyi X̱aat Hít Youth Shelter will remain open 24/7 through the weekend.  

• Jensen-Olson Arboretum will remain open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through the weekend.  

• Dimond Park Aquatic Center will be open 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, July 3 but closed on Saturday, July 4. Augustus Brown pool will be closed both July 3 and July 4. Both pools will re-open with regular hours on Sunday, July 5.  

• Juneau Public Libraries will be closed Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4. All libraries will re-open with regular hours on Sunday, July 5. The Valley book drop will remain open on July 3 and 4, while the Downtown and Douglas book drops will be closed until Sunday, July 5 at 12 p.m.  

• Dimond Park Field House, Treadwell Arena, and Zach Gordon Youth Center will be closed through the weekend starting Friday, July 3. All facilities will re-open with regular hours on Monday, July 6. 

• Juneau-Douglas City Museum will be closed through the weekend starting Friday, July 3. The museum will re-open with regular hours on Monday, July 6.  

Roads:  

• The Douglas Fourth of July Soapbox Derby for Kids will take place on July 3 and 4. Starting July 3 at 4 p.m., St. Ann’s Avenue from Summers Street to 3rd Street will be closed to vehicular traffic until 9 p.m. on July 4.  

• The Juneau Fourth of July parade will begin at 11 a.m. on July 4 at the Department of Labor building on West 8th Street. From 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., several streets in downtown Juneau will be closed to vehicular traffic. “No Parking” signs in these areas will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  

• The Douglas Fourth of July parade will begin at 2 p.m. on July 4. Starting at 1:45 p.m. and ending when the parade is over, Douglas Highway will be closed at Capital View Court. “No Parking” signs on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th streets will be in effect.

Harbors:  

• The Statter Harbor, Auke Bay, office will be open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4. Statter Harbor field staff can be reached after hours at 907-321-0935 or VHF Radio.  

• The Port Field Office will be open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4. Dock field staff can be reached after hours at 907-321-4926 or VHF radio. 

• The Port Director’s Office will be closed Friday, July 3. 

• The Aurora Harbor Office will be closed Saturday, July 4. Aurora field staff can be reached after hours at 907-321-1115 or VHF radio. 

• The Douglas Harbor launch ramp will be congested due to the holiday and use of the ramp may be restricted. 

Don’t forget that personal fireworks are not permitted on the Downtown Seawalk or any CBJ-owned waterfront property.
