New! Walk Southeast Summit Series

Take your virtual trek to Ketchikan to the next level with the Summit Series! Each month you’ll start at sea level with a new Southeast Alaska peak as the goal. Track the elevation gain on your walks, runs, and hikes and see if you can reach the top. Let’s climb that mountain!

Here’s how it will work….

When you register for Walk Southeast, choose to accept the Summit Series challenge. We’ll email you a paper tracker at the beginning of each month with a different mountain to ‘climb’. At the end of each month, you’ll submit that tracker, to be entered into a prize drawing. Don’t worry, we’ll send you all the details—the link to submit, the deadline, and the prize info—all in the email. Keep your eyes out!

A Few FAQs

We’ve picked out some good ones from around Southeast Alaska.

  • May | Mt. Edgecombe, 3,200 feet
  • June | Nugget Mountain, 5,560 feet
  • July | Mount John Jay, 7,500 feet
  • August | Devil’s Thumb, 9,100 feet

No, each month you start back at sea level. That’s to say any elevation gained in May only counts on your way up Mt. Edgecombe. When June rolls around, you’ll reset and start your climb up Nugget Mountain.

There is only one method to track your elevation gained—an old-school paper tracker! We’ll email a new, unique one each month with a new mountain to climb.

But, how do I know how much elevation I’ve gained, you ask? That is best done with a wearable device, such as an Apple or Garmin watch. Or with a tracking app on your phone. Many fitness apps will note the elevation gain when you track a hike. At the end of your hike, check the stats and transfer that information to the paper tracker.

Each month is an independent challenge. If you don’t reach the peak in May, for example, you can start over and try to climb Nugget Mountain in June.

Of course there is! There isn’t just one, however, there are four; one drawing for each mountain! To be eligible, you need to make it to the top of that month’s mountain and submit your tracker by the noted deadline. Winners will be notified by phone/email and announced on social media.
