Art Scraps: Welcome to the Wonderful Worlds of Kathleen and Bo

Art Scraps is collaborative art exhibition by Kathleen Harper and Bo Anderson. Kathleen and Bo spent the past year upcycling, recycling, and reusing materials to create a variety of art pieces for this multi-media exhibition. Drawing from nature, humor, life in Alaska, and the anxiety of this current moment in time, Art Scraps is an eclectic look into what inspires, excites, and worries the artists.
Kathleen and Bo met in 2004, building props and scenery for Perseverance Theatre, and they've been inseparable ever since. Growing up in Alaska has taught them both how to make the most out of whatever is on hand.
Bo works for Community Schools running the Juneau School District’s Auditoriums. He is perhaps most famous for his contributions to the Free Little Art Gallery (FLAG) run by the Juneau-Douglas City Museum. Since 2021 he has made hundreds of tiny wood and paper masterpieces for the FLAG. Bo enjoys making things from scrap wood rescued from trashcans, and finding used canvases in free piles on the side of the road.
Kathleen works for the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council managing Centennial Hall and the Juneau Arts and Culture Center spaces. In her free time Kathleen enjoys creating mixed media art from random materials and leftover scraps she has collected over the years. She loves to discover potential in the everyday items that surround us. Each piece Kathleen creates involves learning how to work with the materials and their limitations, and how to achieve the artwork the materials inspire in her imagination.
Free Artist Workshops:
Art with Bo– Saturday, December 6th | 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Drop-in to make small art for the Free Little Art Gallery with Bo.
Art with Kathleen– Saturday, December 20th | 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Call 907-586-3572 to sign-up to make coffee filter roses with Kathleen. Space is limited.
