DECEMBER 20, 1894-Thousands of tons of rock broke loose from the hanging wall of the big Glory Hole at Treadwell last week but fortunately nobody was hurt by the falling debris.
B. M. Smith, manager of the Alaska Electric Light & Power Company, is also the Alaska representative of General Electric Company, manufacturer of high class appliances.
St. Ann?s School, the Presbyterian Mission School and the Log Cabin Church are all having Christmas programs and trees during the coming week.
Both the Mexican and Treadwell mills and compressors are being run entirely by steam power during the present cold weather.
DECEMBER 31, 1894-Beef, mutton and pork sales have dropped off at the local markets with the arrival on the market of a large supply of venison.
O. H. Adsit has been named the new chief of the Juneau Fire Association.
John Tibbets, James Blaine and Oliver Fountaine have incorporated as the Juneau Ferry & Navigation Company. The company owns the vessels, Julia, Seaolin, Lone Fisherman and Marion and has contracted with Straven and Laughlin, machinists, to put a gasoline engineer in the Marion. This will be the first engine of its kind in local marine service. In addition to ferry service on Gastineau Channel, the company will carry freight and passengers to Chilkat, Dyea and other points.
The fire ladders that belong to the Fire Association and should be at the fire tower are scattered around town, having been borrowed by various residents. On Saturday not a single ladder was at tower when there should have been six. These ladders should not be used except for fire purposes.
JANUARY 7, 1895-The annual Firemen?s Masked Ball will be held at the Court House tomorrow night. Dancing will begin with a grand march at 9 o?clock sharp.
