AUGUST 16, 1888-W. A. Sanders has applied for patents on the Alta, Jumbo and Perseverance lodes and Thomas Nowell for the Groundhog and Summit claims. The two latter claims are showing up well as development work progresses.

The Takou Consolidated Mining Company has completed the wagon road to its property and lumber mill is being placed on the site under the direction of Superintendent J. W. Van Brocklin and mill operator Clarence W. Coulter. A residence is being put up for Mr. and Mrs. Coulter at the mill site and they will soon move there from town.

The Sisters of Saint Ann convent will reopen on Monday, the 20th. Any young ladies wishing to take piano lessons will also be accommodated.

M. A. Hammell and R. P. Nelson, who have been located in the Brady Building on Second Street, have leased the new Wiborg Building on the corner of Second and Seward and will soon move their stock into it.

R. Goldstein is building a warehouse opposite his store on the waterfront.

AUGUST 23, 1888-Two men were arrested last Saturday in Silver Bow Basin and are charged with robbing sluice boxes. They will be sent to Sitka for trial.

Part of the roadway leading to the Basin washed out during the heavy rains this week.

AUGUST 30, 1888-Willis Thorp?s new meat market building was christened with a dance Monday evening. It was well patronized and $40 was realized for the benefit of the public reading room.

A number of men who went to Yakutat last spring to work the beach sands have now moved on to the Copper River country to prospect.

SEPTEMBER 6, 1888-The Ancon brought up the 10-stamp mill for the Takou Consolidated Mining Company and it is now being hauled to the site at the first falls on Gold Creek. Much of the plant has the capacity to handle the output of 40 stamps and more will be added if justified.

M. J. Cohen & Co., owners of the Juneau Brewery, have purchased the Silver Bow Saloon.

The Webster mill on Gold Creek has started work on $35 rock.

Some very good rock is being taken from the Perseverance lode, one of the Jumbo group owned by the Gold Mountain Mining Company.
