Information:

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
A successful candidate will have an understanding of and ability to apply basic principles of civil engineering including grading, ditching, drainage and site development. They need to be able to read and understand plats and have the attention to detail to catch errors and inconsistencies. The position requires interpreting and enforcing CBJ Municipal code as it applies to private development. Problem solving and customer service skills will allow the candidate to excel at helping the public navigate these code requirements.

The position manages two distinct units: the General Engineering and Utility Business Unit. General Engineering has two engineering associates who inspect and approve building permits and plans for private development. Utility Business Unit houses two meter technicians who operate largely in the field and one utility billing employee who handles all the billing for the water/wastewater utility. A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the ability to manage small groups with different functions, work successfully with private developers, mediate disputes on utility billing, and effectively manage employees who are offsite.

WHAT IS IT LIKE TO WORK ON OUR TEAM

The Engineering and Public Works Department is one of CBJ’s largest departments. General Engineering and the Utility Business Unit are located with the Engineering Division. There exists significant collaboration and cooperation within the Division and team members in other work units have the necessary experience and willingness to support the Program Manager so they can be successful in their position.

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION

This position works (Monday through Friday) 8am – 4:30pm. The office is located in downtown Juneau at the Marine View Center, 230 S. Franklin Street, 3rd Floor.
