Treadwell Arena reopens to limited use

When the City and Borough of Juneau Emergency Operations Center raised the overall community risk to Level 3 High, several CBJ facilities temporarily closed on October 21, including Treadwell Ice Arena. After working directly with core user groups and implementing COVID-19 mitigation strategies appropriate to the current community risk level, the ice rink has reopened to limited use.

At Level 3 High, Treadwell Arena requirements are:

  1. Wear a mask inside the facility at all times (including on the ice)
  2. Keep socially distanced as best as possible
  3. Limit 20 people total in facility (Treadwell staff not included)

Core user groups that have been part of the discussion include Juneau Skating Club, Juneau Douglas Ice Association, and Juneau-Douglas High School Hockey. The Juneau Adult Hockey Association postponed its season in September. Groups have been asked to update their mitigation plans to include the new requirements, and plans will go through EOC review before each group is being permitted to skate. Treadwell Arena is still closed to general public use.

Since the start of the pandemic in March, no known COVID-19 cases in Juneau have been linked to Treadwell Arena.

For more information, contact Treadwell Arena Manager Lauren Anderson at 586-0410 or [email protected].
