Bike Bingo! – A Bike Bingo will get you 10 Health Yourself points!
2025 Bike Everywhere Challenge – For each day that you ride at least four (4) miles per day, you’ll get five (5) Health Yourself points!
If you do Bike Bingo AND the Bike Everywhere Challenge, you can only get Health Yourself points for one of them. HOWEVER…completing the other one will land you a fabulous prize! Submit your forms to Jess Brown by June 5 to qualify.
One of the Bike Bingo! blocks is to register your bike at 529 Garage. The Juneau Police Department participates in this program to mitigate theft and to return bikes to their rightful owners. Cycle Alaska sells the 529 Garage shields for $12 per.
Other Bike Bingo! blocks give credit for trying new equipment. Take advantage of Cycle Alaska’s 20% off walk-in rate for locals, and try a bike you’ve not ridden before. They have street bikes, e-bikes, tike bikes, tandem bikes, and Burley-Bee Trailers to bring along the youngsters a taste for speed.
The ride between Twin Lakes parking lot and CBJ’s downtown offices is about 3.7 miles – a nice ride for a beginner!
The most complex element is crossing Old Glacier Highway to the bike path on the Hospital side. There are two ways to go:
Use the crosswalk:
There is a crosswalk at the intersection of Glacier Highway and Hospital Drive.
A. Enter the roadway in the bike lane. Stay in the bike lane until the crosswalk.
B. Dismount your bike and walk it across Glacier Highway, then across Hospital Drive. This is not a signalized crosswalk, so use your judgment.
C. Remount your bike and off you go!
“Take the Lane:”
This requires interaction with traffic, and can be overwhelming if you are new to it. However, if you’d like to give it a try, here is what you do:
D. Enter the roadway in the bike lane.
E. When it is safe to do so, enter the traffic lane. Make sure that vehicles have plenty of room to see you and slow down.
F. Enter the turn lane.
G. Like a car, turn onto Hospital Drive, then (unlike a car, ideally) immediately onto the bike path.
Take your time and be safe! We will see you at work.

Under Thunder is a wonderful trail for both the beginner and a more experienced biker. The Juneau Mountain Bike Alliance has worked with Juneau’s Parks and Recreation Department to develop a full-range course – from trail riding, to swoop-de-doos, to bridges and jumps. Challenges are well marked so the beginner does not have to worry about blundering into the unknown. Look at all these happy people, working hard to elevate your mountain bike experience! Every day can be an adventure!
