Reminder: Utilities Division to resumes water shutoffs next week except for COVID-19 hardship customers

The City and Borough of Juneau Utilities Division will be resuming water shutoffs and finance charges next week for utility accounts that are delinquent 90 days or more. CBJ has not performed shutoffs since March in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. If you are experiencing financial hardships due to COVID-19, you MUST complete a COVID-19 Hardship Form or call CBJ Collections at 586-5268 to avoid water shutoffs and finance charges. The form is available for both residential and commercial CBJ utility customers, and can be found here.

Non-pay water shutoffs and finance charges will resume for customers who have not submitted the COVID-19 Hardship Form the week of June 22. Finance charges will resume on delinquent accounts and will be reflected in the June bill.

Customers are still encouraged to pay bills on time and in full when possible. If payment arrangements are needed for non-COVID-19 financial hardships, please call the CBJ Collections Office as soon as possible at 586-5268 or email [email protected].

Utility Division resumes water shutoffs & finance charges except for COVID-19 hardship customers

The City and Borough of Juneau has extended the deferral of utility bills and waiver of finance charges and shutoffs for customers who are experiencing financial hardship due to COVID-19. If you are unable to pay your bill in full due to COVID-19, you must complete a COVID-19 Financial Hardship and Deferred Payment Agreement with the CBJ Collections Office to avoid water shutoffs and finance charges. The agreement is available for both residential and commercial CBJ Utility customers, and can be found here.

The Utility Division will resume non-pay water shutoffs and finance charges beginning the month of June for customers who have not submitted the Financial Hardship and Deferred Payment Agreement. Non-pay water shutoffs for 90+ day delinquent accounts will take place the week of June 22, 2020. Finance charges will resume on delinquent accounts and will be reflected in the June bill.

Customers are still encouraged to pay bills on time and in full when possible. If payment arrangements are needed for non-COVID-19 financial hardships, please call the CBJ Collections Office as soon as possible at 907-586-5268 or email [email protected].

If you’re an Easy Pay customer and need to discontinue or change your automatic payments, you must contact Accounts Receivable no later than June 10, 2020 at 907-586-5261 or [email protected].

CBJ Utility Division will halt water shutoffs, waive finance charges

The City and Borough of Juneau Utility Division will halt water shutoffs and waive finance charges through May 25, 2020. Customers are still encouraged to pay bills on time and in full when possible. If payment arrangements are needed, please call CBJ Revenue Collections as soon as possible at 907-586-5268 or e-mail [email protected].

If you are an Easy Pay customer and need to discontinue automatic payments you must contact Accounts Receivables no later than April 10, 2020 by calling 907-586-5261 or emailing [email protected].

Reminder: Rate changes went into effect January 1

Please be aware that a water and sewer rate increase went into effect January 1, 2020. The City & Borough of Juneau Assembly in August approved increases to both the water and sewer utility rates. The 4 percent rate increase went into effect January 1. Find the new rates here. Simultaneously, the household hazardous waste fee will be removed from utility bills.

Please expect the changes to your billing statements. All Bill-Pay customers will need to update their accounts to reflect the new rates in order to stay current.

Following the January 1, 2020 increase, there will be subsequent 2 percent increases to water and sewer fees in July 2021, July 2022, July 2023, and July 2024. These increases keep pace with inflationary cost increases. Revenue generated goes toward costs for operating and maintaining major water and wastewater infrastructure systems, debt financing from Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation loans, and capital projects directed at failing infrastructure or regulatory compliance. Different classes of rate payers will see different net results, but, generally, the reduction in the household hazardous waste fee offsets the water and sewer rate increases.

Water and sewer rates going up January 1
