Enjoy Outdoor Fun and Share Ideas for Marine Park at Public Events on April 27

The City and Borough of Juneau, together with consultants Coffman Engineers and J.A. Brennan Associates, will host two events on Thursday, April 27, to gather public feedback on the future of Marine Park and capture the community’s vision for the cornerstone of Juneau’s waterfront.

Juneau residents of all ages are invited to Marine Park from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. for family-friendly outdoor fun including games, sidewalk chalk, and a fire pit. CBJ and consultants will be available to talk about the park and hear ideas for improvements in a relaxed and informal setting.

The casual gathering will be followed by a formal public meeting at the Baranof Hotel from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. The meeting will include a presentation on the Marine Park project and offer the opportunity for more in-depth questions and public comment.

Feedback gathered at both events will be to develop a Marine Park Master Plan to guide the park’s long-term future and help direct upcoming renovations.

Following the development of this plan, a design for proposed improvements is scheduled to be completed this fall. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2024. For the latest project information, visit the Marine Park Improvements project page.

Register for the 4th Annual Walk Southeast, Track Your Miles & Enter To Win Big Prizes

What Southeast Alaska community can you walk, run, or hike to by September 1 without ever leaving Juneau? 104 miles to Skagway or 297 miles to Ketchikan? Juneau Parks & Recreation’s Walk Southeast is a free and fun activity that helps you stay active by tracking miles you walk, run, or hike between May 1 and September 1. Hit the trails, go for a walk, or even jump on the treadmill. The more miles you log, the more chances you have to win prizes. Register now through May 7 here (under Special Events tab).

Registered Juneau participants have two options to track miles: a traditional fillable/printable PDF Mileage Tracker or the My Virtual Mission app. For all the details, go to the Walk Southeast webpage or Facebook event.

To be eligible for prizes and receive a Walk Southeast sticker, submit your tracker by September 2 on the Walk Southeast webpage. The local drawing grand prize is a 1-night stay at Amalga Cabin. The Alaska Airlines drawing is for two roundtrip tickets anywhere Alaska Airlines flies. To qualify for that, you must be registered, live in Southeast Alaska, walk a minimum of 150 miles, and submit your tracker by the September 2 deadline.

Walk Southeast, created by Juneau Parks & Recreation, is a region-wide activity. People in Ketchikan, Juneau, Petersburg, and Wrangell will register through their communities, but anyone in Southeast can register and participate for a chance to win the Alaska Airlines tickets.

For more information, contact CBJ Recreation & Public Services Manager Lauren Verrelli at 907-586-0423 or [email protected].
