Canvass Review Board Certifies CBJ’s 2020 Regular By-Mail Municipal Election

It is with great pleasure that we announce the official certification of the October 6, 2020 CBJ Regular Municipal Election which was held as CBJ’s first by-mail election in partnership with the Municipality of Anchorage. The Canvass Review Board began its work at 10:00a.m. this morning and completed its review certifying the election results at approximately 2:00p.m. The final results sheet is attached and is also available on the Municipal Clerk’s Elections webpage at https://juneau.org/clerk/elections. More detailed information regarding the details and statistics related to this first By-Mail election will be provided in follow up report to the Assembly in November or December.

The newly elected Assemblymembers are: Areawide Maria Gladziszewski, Assembly District 1 Alicia Hughes-Skandijs, Assembly District 2 Christine Woll, all of whom were elected to serve three year terms. Board of Education Members Brian Holst and Martin Stepetin Sr. were each elected to serve three year terms.

The newly elected Board of Education (School Board) members will be sworn into office at a meeting to be held on Wednesday, October 21 at 6:00p.m. in the TMHS Library and via ZOOM at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87191607711?pwd=T0tRc1F6K2pEUE9mN0o2Y2pVSnA5dz09.

Newly-elected Assemblymember Christine Woll will be sworn in during the Assembly Reorganization meeting on Monday, October 26 at 7:00p.m.  At that same meeting, the Assembly will recognize outgoing Assemblymember Rob Edwardson who has concluded a three year term of service in the District 2 seat on the Assembly as of October 20, 2020. Updated CBJ Municipal Election preliminary unofficial results are now posted

The third round of preliminary unofficial results for the CBJ Municipal By Mail Election have now been posted to the Elections webpage.

As of Friday, October 16, the total number of reviewed, approved, and counted ballots is 11,836. That’s 42.6% of the 27,789 ballots distributed for this election.

The preliminary unofficial election results are the culmination of all the work done at the Anchorage Election Center, and any remaining ballots added to these totals will be based upon the work of the Canvass Review Board, which will commence its work at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20, in the Assembly Chambers at City Hall. Final results will be available following the Canvass Review Board’s certification of the election on Tuesday.

CBJ Election Preliminary Unofficial Results – Updated 10/16/20

The counting of ballots in the CBJ Regular Municipal By Mail Election concluded on Friday, October 16 at the Anchorage Election Center and the next steps will be the final review by the Canvass Review Board. The Canvass Review Board will commence its work on Tuesday, October 20 at 10am in the Assembly Chambers at City Hall.

The final round of preliminary unofficial results are now available.  These results include a total of 11,836 ballots counted as of Friday, October 16 out of 27,289 registered voters putting the turnout at 42.6% so far. That is the highest voter turnout for CBJ since the 2000 regular Municipal Election at which 11,799 ballots were cast out of 24,054 registered voters with a 49.1% turnout.

CBJ Election preliminary unofficial results, updated Oct. 10

The counting of ballots in the CBJ Regular Municipal By Mail Election continues at the Anchorage Election Center and the second round of preliminary unofficial results have now been posted to Elections webpage at https://juneau.org/clerk/elections.

Of the 11,000+ ballots received to date, the count on Saturday, October 10 put the total reviewed, approved, and counted ballots at 10,048. That is 1,950 ballots added to the Friday, October 9 count of 8,098 in the preliminary unofficial results.

Additional review is being done on the remaining ballots and we will continue to receive ballots in the mail and add those to the review and counting process. Ballots postmarked by Election Day, October 6 and meeting the necessary voter qualifications will be counted. Part of that review process includes mailing out letters to Juneau voters asking them to respond right away to the requested information. If you receive a letter from the CBJ Clerk’s office regarding your ballot, please respond to the request as soon as possible so those ballots may advance to the next stage of the counting process.

The next preliminary results will be posted online on Friday, October 16 in advance of the work of the Canvass Review Board on October 20.
