Part of Overstreet Park Seawalk closed Tuesday to Thursday for canoe installation
Yaadachóon, a 20-foot aluminum canoe created by Southeast Alaska artist Robert Mills, will be permanently installed on the Overstreet Park Seawalk this week. To facilitate installation, the Seawalk’s elevated boardwalk from Overstreet Park to the island will be closed for pedestrian use Tuesday, November 16, through Thursday, November 18, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Mills created Yaadachóon in 2020 through the City and Borough of Juneau CARES ArtWorks Grant program. The canoe will be placed on the Seawalk island with the bow of the canoe facing southeast to the waters of the Taku River. Funding for the installation is from donations and grants raised by the Juneau Arts & Humanities Council. Additional funding to install a sign, site enhancements, and lighting is being raised this winter with the goal of finishing the installation next summer.
