Juneau schools will remain closed Tuesday, Jan. 11; Riverbend closed thru Wednesday

January 10, 2022 – FYI, News

Due to continued hazardous road and sidewalk conditions in the Juneau area, all Juneau School District schools and offices will stay closed Tuesday, January 11, for both students and staff. All classes, activities, RALLY, and after-school programs are canceled for the safety of the students and employees. There will be no distance delivery or online classes. Further updates will be posted on the district website juneauschools.org.

In addition, a burst pipe at Riverbend Elementary School has caused significant flooding in the school. JSD Maintenance and Custodial crews are busy repairing and cleaning the damage, but it is a big job. Riverbend Elementary School will stay closed to the students on Wednesday, January 12, while the cleanup is finished. Riverbend families will be updated Wednesday on the plan for reopening.

City and Borough of Juneau offices and facilities will likely be open Tuesday, January 11. If CBJ facilities are closed, supervisors and local radio stations will be notified by 5 a.m. Tuesday morning. CBJ staff can check with supervisors about telework options and the liberal leave policy is still in effect.

Please use extreme caution when driving and walking around town. Roadways are in various stages of being plowed. If you don’t need to be out driving, please stay home. If walking, please take your time, choose proper footwear, and be aware of your surroundings.
