Celebrate Arbor Day 2025 at Evergreen Cemetery & Park on May 19

CBJ Parks & Recreation invites the community to celebrate Arbor Day 2025 at Juneau’s newest arboretum, Evergreen Cemetery & Park. Join us at 12 p.m. noon on Monday, May 19.

This year’s Arbor Day celebration includes a ceremonial tree planting and a chance to recognize the continued growth and care of our city’s green spaces. Join us for a brief gathering to honor the importance of trees in our community and to welcome the newest additions to the Evergreen arboretum.

All are welcome! Come celebrate nature, community, and the beauty of our shared spaces.

Apply for a Fourth of July vendor spot at Savikko Park

The City and Borough of Juneau Parks & Recreation Department is now accepting vending permit applications for Fourth of July festivities at Savikko Park. All permits are issued on a first-come, first-served basis. The deadline to apply is Monday, June 23 at 4:30 p.m. Learn more on the Parks & Recreation Vending Permits webpage.

All food vendors will be located near Treadwell Arena. There are 19 food vending spots available including a bigger space to accommodate a large food truck. For non-food vendors, there are five spots available along Savikko Road. Parks & Recreation supplies the vending space only. All other equipment – like tables, tents, and generators – must be provided by the vendor.

Explore the beach at Jensen-Olson Arboretum on May 31

Get your feet wet with a family-friendly beach exploration at the Jensen-Olson Arboretum on Saturday, May 31 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. This free event will take place during low tide, offering the perfect chance to see the beach habitat in action as we explore the shoreline through hands-on activities, games, and cool discoveries at the water’s edge.

This program is geared toward children ages 6-12 and their families (siblings ages 3-15 welcome). Please keep in mind that all children must be accompanied by an adult.

Admission is free but registration is required; space is limited to 25 children. Registration opens online through the Parks & Rec registration catalog on Wednesday, May 21 at noon.

Apply for a CBJ Enterprise or Advisory Board – deadline extended to June 6

The following CBJ Enterprise Boards and Advisory Board have seat openings due to upcoming vacancies and/or terms coming due. The deadline to apply for these seats has been extended to 12 p.m. noon, Friday, June 6.

Those interested in applying should fill out an online application and mark which boards they are interested in. Upon receipt of an application the Clerk’s Office will email applicants advanced interview questions specific to each board.  The Clerk’s Office will schedule applicants who returned the advanced interview questions, in the time allotted, for a 10-minute interview with the full Assembly sitting at the Assembly Human Resources Committee. Interview dates/times are yet-to-be finalized for an evening in mid- to late June.

Applications will be accepted until 12 p.m. Friday, June 6 for:

Airport Board – 3 seats for terms running July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2028, & 2 seats for various unexpired terms

Docks & Harbors Board – 3 seats for terms running July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2028

Eaglecrest Ski Area Board – 3 seats for terms running July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2028

Planning Commission – 1 unexpired term seat beginning immediately – December 31, 2027

Systemic Racism Review Committee – 2 seats for terms running July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2028 and 1 unexpired term seat beginning immediately – June 30, 2027
