Planning for Eagle Valley Center & Amalga Meadows Park kicks off Feb. 11

The City and Borough of Juneau Parks & Recreation Department is creating a Master Plan for the Eagle Valley Center and the Amalga Meadows Park just north of Amalga Harbor. The community is invited to bring ideas to a public meeting on Tuesday, February 11, at the Valley Library, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Help the department thoughtfully determine what trends and visions might shape the future of the public natural park located at 24.5 mile. Meeting participants will have the opportunity to learn about existing usage, partnerships and collaborations; get trail and public use cabin updates; and give input on Amalga Meadows Park management direction and long-term visions.

For more information, contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 586-5226 or [email protected].

Application period for a Parks & Recreation commercial use permit is now open

The City and Borough of Juneau Parks & Recreation Department is currently accepting Commercial Use permit applications for the 2020 season. Commercial Use permits authorize commercial activity on CBJ parklands. The deadline to apply is Sunday, March 15.

Parks & Recreation is only issuing a 1-year permit for the 2020 season. The department is currently considering changes to the regulations that govern commercial use of parks and recreation facilities. A second public comment period will take place this month. Any changes or updates to permits as a result of a change to the regulation will not affect permits for the 2020 summer season. For more information on this process and/or to apply for a Commercial Use permit, click here.

Applications can be submitted by email to [email protected], fax 586-4589, or mailed/in-person to the Parks & Recreation office in City Hall, 155 S. Seward St. Applications may also be picked up at the office, Room 218 in City Hall.

For more information, contact Recreation & Public Services Manager Lauren Verrelli at 586-0423 or [email protected].
