The City and Borough of Juneau Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Chicken Yard Park Community Meeting on January 22 at 6:30 p.m. in McPhetres Hall, 325 Gold Street inside Holy Trinity Church.
The purpose of the community meeting is to discuss upcoming improvements to Chicken Yard Park this summer. Chicken Yard Park is located on Starr Hill on the corner of Sixth Street and Kennedy Street. The public is invited to share ideas on what should be improved at the park.

Due to mechanical issues with a circulation pump, the lap pool at Augustus Brown Swimming Pool will be closed until January 17. The leisure pool, sauna, fitness equipment, and locker rooms are still available for public use.

Starting Monday, January 6, Parks & Recreation’s Preschool Open Gym at Mount Jumbo Gym will be available 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. The playtime for ages 0 to 6 in Douglas is starting earlier and lasting longer.
The cost is $3 per child. Parents/guardians, grandparents, caregivers, and children under 1 are free. Punch cards (buy 10, get 1 free) are available at Mount Jumbo Gym and the Parks & Recreation Office. Guardians must stay with the kids at all times.

The Zach Gordon Youth Center is hosting a Teen New Year’s Eve Party on Tuesday, December 31, 6 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at the youth center. The free event is for teens ages 14-19.
Festivities include live music featuring Manner and Indigo Gold, taco bar and pel meni, and NBA 2K20 and Madden NFL. The Teen New Year’s Eve Party at Zach Gordon Youth Center is a drug- and alcohol-free event. Limited transportation home is available; call 586-2635 before noon on Tuesday to sign up.
