Taku Harbor Improvements Begin March 30

Improvements to Taku Harbor infrastructure will take place from Monday, March 30 to Friday, May 1. Construction will replace the Taku Harbor approach float, which is over 50 years old and is experiencing extreme structural issues, with an elevated catwalk that is safer for public use and requires less maintenance from the City and Borough of Juneau Docks and Harbors.

During construction, the approach dock to the state-owned Taku Harbor Tiger Olson Cabin will not be accessible. Visitors to the cabin should plan alternative means to get ashore.

Learn more about Taku Harbor construction at juneau.org/harbors/project-archive/entry/116428.

For more information about the project, contact CBJ Port Director Matthew Sill at [email protected] or 907-586-0398.

Juneau Residents Invited to Share Roadway Safety Concerns March 16 to 18

The City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) invites residents to share their insights into ways to improve the safety of Juneau’s streets and roadways at three upcoming open house events. The information gathered at the events will help guide the development of a CBJ Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Safety Action Plan to create a safer transportation network for all users. Residents can also share their input by filling out the CBJ Safe Streets for All Public Survey and comment map available at bit.ly/CBJSafeStreets.

Safe Streets for All (SS4A) Open Houses:

  • Monday, March 16 at 5 p.m. in the Dzantik’i Heeni (1600 Renninger St) common area
  • Tuesday, March 17 at 5 p.m. in the City Hall (155 Heritage Way) Assembly Chambers
  • Wednesday, March 18 at 5 p.m. in the Valley Library (3205 Dimond Park Loop) large meeting room

The open houses and SS4A Safety Action Plan are funded through the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant program. Hosted by CBJ, the open houses will be facilitated by Kinney Engineering and RESPEC to gather input from all Juneau road-users – including pedestrians, bicyclists, public transportation users, motorists and commercial vehicle operators. The goal of the open house events is to understand the lived experience of Juneau’s roadway users in addition to historical trends, roadway crash data and other factors across the entire jurisdiction.

Open houses are open to all. No RSVP is required.

For more information about the CBJ SS4A Safety Action Plan, contact Jeffrey Thole at [email protected]
