Volunteers needed for airport emergency disaster drill July 20

July 11, 2019 – FYI, News

The Juneau International Airport is seeking volunteers for a full-scale simulated aircraft emergency disaster exercise at the airport on Saturday, July 20, 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Volunteers are needed to assist in role-playing as injured passengers, distraught family members, and bystanders.

Volunteers are crucial in testing the responsiveness of Juneau’s emergency agencies. The exercise allows the airport and the City and Borough of Juneau to effectively test their emergency action plans. During the exercise, volunteers will interact with Juneau’s first responders, including Capital City Fire/Rescue and Juneau Police Department, and support organizations, like Bartlett Regional Hospital, Red Cross, and other agencies. The Juneau airport conducts a full-scale simulated emergency drill once every three years.

All ages are welcome to volunteer and no prior experience is necessary. Individuals under 18 require parental supervision and/or permission. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. The airport will also host a volunteer pre-event briefing on Friday, July 19 at 5 p.m. to assign roles. To volunteer or for more information, email [email protected].

For more information, contact Airport Superintendent Scott Rinkenberger at 586-0921 or [email protected].
