In the planning phase, CBJ and partners work together on isolation-quarantine facility

April 7, 2020 – News

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City and Borough of Juneau is working with community partners to set up an isolation and quarantine facility at Centennial Hall for individuals who are unable to do so at home.

Isolation and quarantine help protect the public by preventing exposure to infected individuals or to individuals who may be infected. Isolation applies to those who display COVID-19 symptoms, those awaiting test results, and those who received positive test results but don’t require hospitalization. Quarantine (for 14 days to see if symptoms develop) applies to certain travelers and others who may have been exposed to COVID-19. The goal of the facility at Centennial Hall will be to serve all these needs. Areas for quarantine will be separate from areas for isolation. The facility will be set up in accordance with Division of Public Health guidelines.

Implementing such a facility at Centennial Hall utilizes multiple healthcare and social service systems, and is in the planning process. In the meantime, Mount Jumbo Gym in Douglas has been set up as a temporary emergency isolation and quarantine option.
