Gastineau Avenue Landslide Update (2:30 PM 9/27)

September 27, 2022 – News

As of 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 27, site crews have completed a preliminary assessment of the Gastineau landslide area and determined that under the current favorable weather conditions hazard risk has returned to pre-event levels. The immediate area is therefore open to limited residential access. Members of the public without an essential need are still asked to avoid the area to allow clean-up crews to work as swiftly and smoothly as possible. Further assessments are ongoing at this time.

Public Works has begun the process of preparing the area for debris removal; however, we anticipate that this work may take multiple days. In order to allow access for crew vehicles and operations, area residents are asked to immediately move all vehicles parked within a one block radius of 187 Gastineau Avenue.

Vehicles that have not been moved will be towed to Zach Gordon Youth Center at 396 Whittier Street. Vehicle owners will not be charged any fees and may pick up their vehicles at their convenience.

A timeline for the full restoration of power to the area is anticipated once clean-up operations have progressed further.

Residents impacted by the slide and in need of assistance should contact Tom Mattice at (907) 209-9207.

Further information will be provided as it becomes available.
