Ferry Way closed for reconstruction starting March 5

February 25, 2019 – FYI, News

Reconstruction of Ferry Way, the next phase of the City and Borough of Juneau’s Downtown Street Improvements project, will begin March 5, weather permitting. Arete Construction is the contractor and DOWL will be the inspection and contract administration firm. The substantial completion date is May 15, with all work done by June 1. Regular work hours will be Monday through Friday from 7-5 and Saturdays from 8-5.

Construction will include new sidewalks, roadway, lighting, drainage improvements, and new landscaping features. Alaska Electric Light & Power and Alaska Communications will perform electrical and communications utility work, including demolition of the utiliwalk that runs beneath the sidewalk and replacement of the switch gear at the corner of Ferry Way and South Franklin Street.

Ferry Way will be closed to through traffic during construction, but pedestrian routes will be provided for the duration of the project. Drivers and pedestrians are advised to use caution in the area and to look for construction signage. Shattuck Way will remain open during construction.
