CBJ looking for art proposals for downtown banners; deadline Feb. 13

January 12, 2018 – News

As part of the Downtown Streets Improvements Project, the City and Borough of Juneau seeks artists to design banners for new light poles. Proposals are due February 13, 2018 at 2 p.m.

The existing banners on the downtown light poles were produced in the 1980s and CBJ wants to update the design as many of the core downtown streets are being reconstructed. The selected art will be implemented as light poles get replaced over the next few years. It is anticipated that up to six designs may be selected from one or more artists. Artists will be selected by a seven-member Art Selection Panel.

A non-mandatory pre-submittal meeting will be held Jan. 24 at 10 a.m. in the Marine View Building 3rd floor Engineering Department conference room. Artists interested in submitting a proposal are encouraged to attend. For more details on proposal requirements, including the project schedule and artist compensation, please refer to the Call for Artists.

CBJ is also looking for a member of the public to sit on the Art Selection Panel. Panel members are not eligible to submit art proposals. Individuals interested in serving as the public seat should fill out this application and submit it to the City Clerk’s Office at [email protected] or 155 S. Seward Street, Juneau AK 99801. The deadline to apply for the panel is January 19, 2018 by 4:30 p.m.

Other Art Selection Panel members include two representatives from the Juneau Arts & Humanities Council, one from the Sealaska Heritage Institute, one from the Filipino Community, one from the CBJ Historical Resources Advisory Committee and one from the Downtown Business Association.
